Before DepotEco. Before Wild Rivers Pilates. Before AWACK Hosting.
Before any of this was on the internet, it was a production company: Creative Productions Santa Barbara, based in California. Building scenery. Lighting design. Theatrical installations and rigging in real theaters. Videography — weddings, demo reels for actors, corporate video. Whatever a show or a production needed, that company did it.
When the internet came along, I built a website to promote it: SBCreative.com, formerly Creative Productions Santa Barbara. Same domain, same owner, every year since 1997 — even as what's actually running on it has changed more times than I can count. That's really what this page is: a record of everything that's used this domain along the way.
Some of that early work is still findable today, archived exactly as it looked. In 1998, Creative Productions Santa Barbara designed and built the trade-show booth for Seymour Duncan at the NAMM Show — hand-laid carpet, curved set pieces, rope lighting, a 3-foot mirror ball hung 16 feet up so it could be seen from across the entire convention center. The page documenting it is still in the Wayback Machine, still signed with the same name that's on this one.
Domains change hands constantly — sold, abandoned, picked up by someone else entirely. This one hasn't. Same owner, same domain, continuously, since before most of today's internet existed. No spam history. No gap where it lapsed and got scooped up by someone else. Just one person's actual, unbroken record online.
It's not just that the domain's stayed put — I've been building whatever runs on it myself, the whole way through. Hand-coding raw HTML first, then Dreamweaver once that came along — long before WordPress even existed. This exact page, right now, is raw code I wrote myself — no template, no page builder, no agency in between. Same person, coding it by hand, for coming up on 30 years.
This domain has always belonged to Creative Productions Santa Barbara, founded in 1995 — my own scenic and lighting design company for theatrical and film/TV productions. We were also a videography company: weddings, corporate work, and just about every theatrical performance in Santa Barbara during my time there. Over the years it's also been behind the Santa Barbara Pilates Studio (the same instructor who runs Wild Rivers Pilates today — same craft, just in Santa Barbara instead of on the Oregon coast, some twenty years earlier), and, for a while, helped sell a house on Sea Ranch Dr. It's also where the e-commerce side started, back in 1997 — the same work that grew into RX8Garage.net and MazdaParts.com, two auto-parts stores built from the ground up and later sold, plus an early-invited seller account on Amazon.com that's still active today — and now, the projects below.
